Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Website


The Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) has obtained grant funding through the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) to update existing Hazard Mitigation Plans (HMP's) for California University of Pennsylvania. Pre-disaster planning reduces long-term risk to people and property from natural and human-made hazards.

Recent Announcements

  • Cal U Hazard Mitigation Plan Approved California University of Pennsylvania’s proactive plan for responding to natural or manmade disasters has been approved by state and federal agencies and adopted by the University.  Since December 2013, California University and Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, together with Michael Baker International, have been updating the Cal U Hazard Mitigation Plan. The updated plan will be the blueprint for reducing or eliminating long-term property damage and saving lives should a natural or manmade disaster affect the University community.  “It’s important that the University has a plan in place so we can respond effectively to events such as severe weather, flooding or an infectious disease outbreak,” says Sharon Elkettani, director of Environmental Health and Safety at ...

  • Final Hazard Mitigation Plan Forum Set for December 9th! The Cal U Hazard Mitigation Plan is ready for your review and comment! The Steering Committee has worked diligently to draft a plan to reduce Cal U's risk from disasters. At this forum, we will review the specific steps and strategies proposed to reduce the University's risk. Please join us for a discussion of the plan - we welcome all comments!The meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 9th at 11am in Eberly Hall, Room 115.
